Can I use 2 different images for the collection listing and the top banner?

Yes, you can search for the linked product with the bundle name in the Shopify product admin. After that, put the mouse over the eye icon and look for the display product (the one that doesn't end with "-1", "-2"). 

Just add a second image to this product and the template will display it as the large banner on top. Our custom template is using:

1. The last product image - the large banner on top. 
2. The first product image - the product thumbnail on the collection page.
